FAQs
Here is a list of all our most frequently asked questions to help anyone better understand who we are and the products we offer. If you have any questions you can't see here, or just want some general guidance, please feel free to Contact Us.
What is VoIP?
VoIP stands for 'Voice over Internet Protocol'. This essentially means it is an Internet Phone System that uses digital voice technology instead of the old the old analogue phone lines.

Why should I change to VoIP?
The main reason to change is that BT Openreach has announced that they will be switching off their existing PSTN and ISDN network by 2025. Alongside this the cost savings vs ISDN are huge and the flexibility endless, just take a look at our system features to see why.

What does hosted VoIP mean?
There are multiple types of servers and connections required for a VoIP system to operate and connect out into the world. One option is to buy and maintain these expensive servers in at your premises and then pay for a specialist connection for them. The much more affordable option for small business is to pay for a hosted service where a company like Lakul allow you to use there servers and connections for a monthly fee. This means you just need an Internet connection to connected to our hosted servers and we do the rest.

Can I keep my number?
Yes. As part of our setup service we can transfer your current telephone number from any kind phone service provider to us. If you ever did decide to leave us in the future (we are sure you won't) then you'll be free to take your number with you again.

Can I divert calls to another number?
Yes. Our system is very user friendly and easy to manage. In about 4 mouse clicks you can have your calls forward to any other number/numbers. You don’t even need to be in the office to do it! Alternatively, Contact Us and we can do it for you!

Can I keep my current hardware?
This depends on what hardware you currently have. As part of our free consultation service we can take a look at what you currently have and show you what you can re-use and what you need to replace. Typically old landline phones plugged into a BT line can't be re-used but if you already have VoIP then we may be able to reconfigure the handsets.

Can I get cordless phones?
Yes. We have all kinds of cordless phones we can offer. We have simple options where we install a single transmitter to cover a small office all the way up to more complex systems where multiple transmitters are installed around a big building so you always have a strong signal.

Do I need a phone line?
This is often a point of confusion... you don't strictly need a phone line for VoIP to work, however you need a reasonable quality Internet connection, whether it be Fibre, Cable or Leased Line.

What speed does my Internet need to be?
It depends on how many phones you want, but your Internet doesn't actually need to be that fast. The general rule is you need at least 100Kbs (up and down) per phone. Three quarters of the UK now has access to broadband speeds of about 30Mbs Download (30,000 Kbs) and about 8Mbs Upload (8,000 Kbs) so this is decreasingly a problem.

Do I need phone wiring around my building for each phone?
You don't need 'phone wiring' as such but you need need Ethernet wiring to each phone or Cordless transmitter. If you have Ethernet wiring already for your computers then we can very often utilise that and share it with your computers. If you do not have that then we can offer an Ethernet installation service for you as part of our setup.

If I loose power or Internet connection can I still make/receive calls?
Unfortunately loosing either of these things can stop any phone system, however we can assist in mitigating the risk of either. We can supply and install small battery backups to keep you working in a power cut, and we can supply and install backup 4G Internet connections to take over should your main line go down. On top of this our flexible hosted system will allow you to handsets home or have calls diverted to a mobile.

Do I need a contract?
Yes, we offer flexible contracts starting at 12 months.

How or where do I start?
Contact Us! We offer a free no obligation consultation to discuss your requirements and build a package designed just for you.
